The SOBA National Homebrew Competition is almost underway again for 2013! Follow us on Twitter, and check back here to find the latest updates.

This year’s competition will take place on the weekend of November 2nd with entries opening Monday October 7th, and due in by 5pm on Friday, October 25th.

Joining our hand picked team of experienced judges will be a first for the competition, a celebrity judge in the person of iconic entertainer and current Newstalk ZB broadcaster, Danny Watson.

We have an incredible prize opportunity for our Champion Brewer this year – a full on “Beer Scholarship”. In basic terms, this is a tutored and sponsored entry into the world of commercial brewing consisting of a programme of three commercial releases (the first one is free!) produced and managed by BeerNZ and distributed nationally. Of course, if you have no designs on commercial brewing, you still get the pleasure of flights to, and accommodation in Christchurch and a great day brewing your beer at the Four Avenues brewery, followed by watching it pop up in bars and on shelves around the country.

If you miss out on the Champion Brewer award, but manage to brew the highest scoring beer in the competition, then as always, the Champion Beer will be brewed on the sexy new brewhouse at Hallertau, with long time NHC supporter Steve Plowman and god of hops Joseph Wood helping our winner out.

Finally, Champion Ale and Champion Lager brewers will receive cash prizes to help them out in brewing more tasty treats!
